Meet Kevin Baker

Business executive. Academic AGSM at UNSW Business School. Business and social entrepreneur.

Hello there!

I'm Kevin Baker, diving deep into the synthesis of ethical wisdom and the tech frontier. I identify as a Wisdom Technologist ™. Raised in Buffalo, NY, my tech journey began with a Commodore Vic 20 and evolved into an exploration of the profound influence of today's algorithms on our lives, work, ethics and decisions.

Admittedly, my intrigue with technology started way before my current endeavors. As a fervent tech enthusiast, I embraced the dawn of Web 1.0 and the PC revolution with zest. From assembling PCs and crafting websites to being on the frontline of adopting Mosaic browser, Compuserve, and AOL—I was there, immersed.

Today, my passion has evolved. As a business executive, author, adjunct academic, and host of "The Peak of Potential" podcast, my journey with technology continues. Beyond the boardroom, I dabble in Python, CSS, and HTML, ensuring I'm hands-on. And yes, daily conversations with AIs? Just an ordinary part of my extraordinary day!

My professional timeline has been eclectic: I grew up the son of an entrepreneur in a family business, moved up through middle to senior management in the dealer-only wholesale auto auction industry, founded two non-profits, built a successful e-commerce business, and held an executive role in the commercial food manaufacturing sector.

My roots are deeply embedded in the world of timeless wisdom. My undergraduate studies delved into philosophy and divinity, embracing the teachings of luminaries spanning from the ageless musings of the ancient Greeks to the modern philosophical trailblazers. Today, I stand at the intersection of this vast ocean of thought and the rapidly advancing technological frontier. I'm committed to blending the finest facets of human introspection with the pinnacles of technological innovation, aiming to navigate an impending revolution that, in my eyes, dwarfs even the PC and web eras.

I am currently General Manager (the equivalent of the American COO) at Hardware and General in Australia’s vibrant building supply and hardware industry. In my portfolio is included data analytics and information services.

My academic strides began as Assistant Professor of Business (Adjunct) at Houghton University in New York. I am currently an adjunct lecturer at UNSW School of Business teaching MBA students in The Australian Graduate School of Management. My course, "Managing with Digital Technology,” melds theory with my every day industry life in our discussions.

Having lived across continents, from the bustling streets of New York to the vibrant locales of Sydney, my global experiences uniquely inform Ethics and Algorithms. My endeavors in both the world of business and the timeless realm of philosophy and spirituality have shaped my insights, which I'm eager to share with you.

In this newsletter, you'll find reflections of a life of continuous evolution, growth, and an unwavering curiosity about the world's past, present, and future. Together, let's navigate the intricate dance between the best wisdom of humanity and tomorrow's technological promises.
